    Dear Members,

As you must all know by now the Corona virus (COVID-19) presents a very real risk to our community. The government guidelines to reduce the spread and slow down the progress of the virus are evolving and updating daily. Who could have imagined how rapidly and dramatically this would impact daily life in Australia and worldwide?

As our government moves to slow the pace of the virus down to try and prevent it overwhelming our health system, the committee of the BMWMCCWA has considered the rapidly escalating situation and decided that in the interests of its members, we should also make sensible changes to our approach to club activities, until such time as the threat has passed or our health system has developed the resources to successfully counter it.

Therefore, from 18 March 2020 all club events and organised social gatherings will be suspended until further notice. Web services including the Facebook Group and Forum will continue as normal. Members can still meet and ride as they wish, but they should consider their friends and families and take sensible precautions.

    This includes:

    • Practising sensible social distancing, “no handshakes”
    • Wash your hands regularly and avoid touching your face
    • Self-isolate if you suspect you have the virus or may have been exposed to the virus until such time as you have confirmed that you are clear.
    •   If you are exhibiting flu like symptoms such as coughing or sneezing avoid socialising until the symptoms have passed.
For many of us the virus may not be life threatening or even severe, however for a significant number of our members by nature of their age or health or that of their immediate family the virus presents a significant threat. For this reason, we hope you understand and support these measures. Your committee will monitor the situation and revise and provide regular updates to you as circumstances change.

    Kind regards

Thanks to all of you who donated to the Catalano's staff Christmas collection online and on Sunday the 22nd of December. With your generous help we raised just over $500 for Lulu and the girls. They were delighted and I think very deserving given the lengths they go to looking after our Sunday morning gatherings. As promised all donors had their names entered in the Christmas card. Well done all!

Registration opens on the 20th June 2017

The BMW Safari event began in 1994 and this is its first ever visit to WA.

Designed to cater specifically for riders of BMW Motorcycles. It is unique to Australia. There are two different flavours - the TS Safari for road touring and the GS Safari for off-road adventure riding.

BMW Safaris are a place where riders can escape the daily grind, enjoy the freedom of traveling by bike and make life a ride with a great support network. The Safari typically runs as a touring style event for 5 days staying in a different location each night. The kilometres covered each day varies between about 200 – 500 kilometres so riding time could be up to 8 – 9 hours on some days. It is not a guided tour but the route is pre-ridden in the lead up to the event and full route maps and GPS tracks are created. We also send a lead rider out early in the morning to additionally mark the route with some arrows and also check road conditions in case of any major hazards en-route.

Each rider is free to follow this route at their own pace and stop as they please throughout the day. The only exception to this is where we will sometimes have alternate hard routes planned for riders who want to challenge themselves a little more. In this case we will have a lead and tail rider who guide riders over more difficult terrain. Help will be at hand to ensure everyone gets through safely as a group. In addition to this we have a sweep vehicle bringing up the rear with a trailer to carry any bikes that need to be picked up.

For GS Safaris, a luggage truck is also part of the convoy and will cart your luggage to each overnight stop so your bike is not weighed down with all your clothes.

One of the great things about BMW Safari is that it brings such a wide mix of people together. While the focus is on riding a lot of the time the adventure is about the places you go and the people you meet. Socialising is a big part of BMW Safari life. At night riders are treated to a mix of accommodation, entertainment and food. BMW Safari is an opportunity to meet like minded people and create life-long memories. The Safari concludes with a farewell dinner where everyone has a chance to tell stories about the week’s adventures and perhaps make plans for the next ride with your new found riding buddies. BMW Safari is an outlet for BMW riders that others envy. The riding is first class and the routes are remote. Be a part of the GS community and join us for an adventure of a lifetime.

Later this year BMW will be hosting the GS Safari in WA for the first time !

How good is that, you wont have to haul your kit over the Nullaboor to attend the Safari, its going to be right on your door step in South West WA.

For those interested in attending or just wanting to hear about the GS and TS Safari there is more great news. Grant Evans BMW's Event Manager for the Safari will be attending our club General Meeting on Monday the 13th of March at the Vic Park Hotel. Grant will talk about the safari and maybe answer some of your questions.

Come along and show Grant and BMW how much support there is for hosting an event like this in our backyard.
